Painting on black paper
Watercolor black paper is a unique and interesting medium for artists who want to experiment with traditional watercolor techniques on a non-traditional surface. The dark background of the paper provides a striking contrast to the bright, vibrant colors of the watercolor pigments. The opaque nature of the paper allows for the creation of dramatic, bold color effects, while the texture of the paper creates interesting and unpredictable patterns. However, painting on watercolor black paper may require some adjustments to traditional watercolor techniques, as the colors may not blend or layer in the same way as they would on white paper. Overall, watercolor black paper is an exciting material for artists looking to explore the creative potential of watercolor painting.
If you are looking to paint with watercolor on black paper, there are a few tips that can help you achieve the best results.
Make sure to use opaque white watercolor to create lighter colors on the black paper.
Layer the paint on thickly and let each layer dry completely before proceeding to the next.
Avoid using too much water.
Consider using metallic or iridescent watercolors to add shimmer and shine to your painting.
Lastly, practice and experiment with different techniques to create unique and beautiful watercolor paintings on black paper.

My favorite watercolor pan sets
Hello ! I hope you are doing well. Here is a list of my favorite watercolor pan sets. I’ve tried several different palettes in the last decade and I’ve learned to love a few of them. These palettes work well for me and for my art practice but keep in mind that they might not work for you.
Derwent Watercolor pan set
I love this one, I think It is a perfect palette to start with. I often suggest it for my workshops.
Daniel Smith half-pan set
This half-pan set comes in a black metal box and includes a bonus 12 empty half pans. It’s high quality, more on the expensive side by really worth your money.Kuretake palette
The colors are really beautiful and it has a nice texture. I really enjoy all the kuretake watercolor palettes that I’ve tried.
Cys
This one is new for me I really love how the colors shimmer. It is really tiny making it a nice palette for outdoor painting!
Voilà ! I also love the other derwent palettes and palettes by prima watercolor as well.
3 ways to stay creative when you are busy.
As you might know, I am a new mom. Time is completely different when you are a parent. You have a lot more responsibilities and taking care of a baby is a lot of work. I’ve developed a few skills to add some creative time to my days. I am able to paint almost every day, even if I am very busy taking care of our little one.
Here are three easy ways to add some creative time to your day. These worked great for me as a new mother but they are perfect for anyone with a very busy schedule.
Have all your creative supplies ready.
This was sooooo helpful for me. I have everything ready. Even if I have a few minutes only to paint I can access everything in a matter of seconds. I use these little boxes (see image) to store my paper, brushes and other important supplies to paint.
Create a ritual.
Find a way to block 10-15 minutes a day of creative time in your routine. Add this moment to your calendar as if it was an important meeting. Tips that work for me: I wake up 15 minutes earlier or I skip some time on social media. It does not have to take a long period of time in order to be meaningful and fun (I try to remember that).
Work on smaller paper or in a sketchbook.
This has been very helpful for me as a new mom. It’s fun to be able to ‘finish’ a painting. I had the feeling that I had accomplished something. If you are like me and love to start and finish a painting in one sitting then this little tip is great.
I hope this is helpful. Sending lots of creative moments your way ! xx

Flambette x Lysa
I am really happy with this recent collaboration with flambette 🕯️ a local company that makes high-quality products. We worked together to develop the scent of the candle. This is reminiscent of the blossoming lilacs in the middle of a budding nature at the approach of summer.
For the artwork you find on the label, lilacs inspired me, their color, and the movement of the shrub by adding a little ocher to underline the presence of honey in this whirlwind of smells. I love the little ritual I have with Flambette products, I light my candle when I sit down to paint and take advantage of this moment to relax and take the time.

I had the chance to collaborate with Siboire on two beers: RÊVE & FANTAISIE.
About the Siboire:
Since 2007, the Siboire microbrewery has been providing you with a first-class microbrewing experience through the quality of its beers produced under its roof. Today, there are three Siboire branches, two in Sherbrooke and one in Montreal. Each of the three Siboires offers an extensive menu of house beers and a varied food offer in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
